There is nothing like the feeling of getting outdoors and feeling the open waters. It is, however, not something that you can easily go through as it has its tendencies to be quite rough, especially for beginners.

Surely, you would go and look for waterproof jackets that goes with your waterproof trousers, but the bottom line is you need to make sure that every safety precautions are met before even thinking of taking your woodcarving tools to carve your name on the boat or whatever type of water sport you may be joining.

The very first thing to have if you are indeed a newbie is to make sure that you always have your personal flotation device (PFD) or better yet, wear a life jacket, especially if your sport is water tubing. Keep in mind that even the most skilled swimmers get in bad situations while in the water. A floating device may very well be your only hope during those situations so never go without it.

Knowing CPR and first aid should also be helpful.  Even if you are indeed a first timer, knowing how to handle emergency situations will certainly help. You might even end up taking care of a veteran in tough situations.

If you are using equipments in your water sport, make sure that you have the full knowledge of every equipment that you use. A good crash course would help, but if you truly want to get everything under control, you must do your homework and find out which is which and what equipment to use in every situation.

If your sport involves diving underwater, never ever be too curious with the things that you see underwater. There have been lots of underwater accidents that could have been prevented if the victims never had the idea of touching something that they thought is cute.
